| Answers: Camshaft upgrade options - Ford 289? I currently have my 289 engine for my Mustang torn down while the car is having some bodywork done. It is pretty much all stock equipment, I believe. We're talking cast iron heads and intake. The engine was rebuilt before I bought the car, but it is leaking oil so I decided to tear it down. The heads and intake are remarkably clean, as is the rest of the engine. But while I have it apart I am wondering if there are any simple upgrades I can do. I am going to a swap meet in a few weeks, and I may pick up an aluminum intake, as well as keeping my eyes open for new heads (although I'm not real worried about them for now). But what, if any, camshaft upgrades are there that would work well with my engine. I don't want to have to replace a bunch of other parts just to swap the cam. I'm just looking for something to mildly upgrade my engine, perhaps with a longer duration, maybe add a few horses to it. |
