| Video: My AE82 Corolla with 4AGE 20Valve Blacktop engine upgrade. Bought my AE82 Twin Cam hatch new in 1988, with it's 2nd generation 4AGE 16Valve engine, this was a free revving and delightful car. I enjoyed many years of buzzing around town and country in this, oh what fun! In late 2008 (260000 Kms later) I decided to replace the engine and chose a 4AGE 20Valve Blacktop. This came from an AE111 front halfcut imported from Japan for the purpose (114000 kms on the odometer) Without any real hassle, I had this back on the road at the beginning on Jan, 2009. The Blacktop engine is beautiful, it just revs and revs, I haven't really pushed it hard yet but it regularly sees close to 8000rpm and just wants to keep revving. As max power is developed at 7800 rpm it's not hard to see why. I am liking this very much, the engine is unmodified (except for a Pod filter inlet) and is surprisingly quick. I am thinking about some engine upgrades, bigger cams etc (keeping it N/A) or giving it a bit of boost using something like the TD04L I have sitting in my garage from a previous WRX turbo upgrade. Not too sure yet, am certainly enjoying it as it is for now:) AE82 00.avi |
