Video: Formula 1 Mercedes Safety Car

Thank author of this post/commentThe Official F1™ Safety Car is immediately on hand whenever the safety of a race is threatened by accidents, adverse weather conditions or other hazardous situations. After receiving his instructions from the race management, Bernd Mayländer, the driver of the Safety Car, must go to the head of the Formula 1 field and safely guide the world's fastest racing drivers around the circuit. Fast lap times are a must for the Safety Car, because otherwise the sensitive Formula 1 engines would overheat -- and their tyres and brakes would cool down excessively.

I don't know what motivates these individuals to risks their lives just to feel this kind of dangerous adrenaline rush? If I am a family member of such racers, all I can say fame and popularity could never calm my nerves down knowing that any moment my loved one might end up in a tragic accident.

This is why I have never watch these kinds of sports, or any other dangerous contact sports for that matter.

Well this kind of sport is quite dangerous and I think racers should learn safety measures in doing such activity. If I were them, I won't risk my life for a very dangerous kind of sport. There are still a lot of other sports where you can enjoy much.

But, each and everyone of us has its own sport and perhaps that the best thing for them. Just give extra care.

We all have a fair share of crazy things in our mind and all us even have a daredevil inside, but we just deny it and just scared to show it to people. But if you just let yourself break free you might even find yourself driving your own race car. Anyway, as you say, there are some other sports to try so to us who are afraid to risk our lives to such sports then we better choose the safer kind of sports.

I also wonder why some people would risk their lives just to drive like daredevils. Is it really worth losing your life or being permanently disabled? I think it would hurt your loved ones more if something tragic happens to you so it's definitely not worth it.

Nevertheless, those who join these F1 races can rely on the Safety Car to help them if they ever encounter any trouble during the race.

Being a race car driver is dangerous but being the pace car driver seems like a good way to get the adrenalne fix without the danger. Does anyone know how to become a pace car driver? Is there a school somewhere that teaches this?
